Bridesmaid Dresses Revealed!!

Okay, so I didn't want to post about this until after I had ordered the dresses. With all of the drama and my indecisiveness about picking the bridesmaid dresses I certainly didn't want anything jinxing it when I was so close to finalizing it. Well guess what? The dresses are ordered!!!! Hallelujah!! I honestly think this was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make with wedding planning. Yep...picking bridesmaid dresses and picking the location...those are certainly at the top of the list!

My biggest concern with picking the dresses is that they could be worn again and did NOT look like bridesmaid dresses. I started my search looking for a cocktail dress at a big department store that should have lots and lots of suitable dresses - Macy's, Saks, Dillards, Belk, Nordstrom...you name it. I then checked BCBG, JCrew, Cache, Banana Republic, Anthropologie....and on and on. I could not find a dark purple (aubergine, plum, eggplant...whatever you want to call it!) dress that was stylish, AFFORDABLE, and would look good on everyone at any of these! I actually had it in my mind that I wanted different styles for each bridesmaid, but for them to be the same color and length. This made it even more impossible! But it was very important to me that each bridesmaid feel beautiful and comfortable, while still being able to express her unique style. (Not to mention the fact that when lots of bridesmaids are wearing the exact same dress, shoes, and hairstyle they tend to look like a bridal army to me...but that's another topic all together!) :)

So without further ado, I present to you our bridesmaid dresses:

They're all Melissa Sweet and Priscilla of Boston dresses. Everyone will be wearing the Fig color (pictured here 2nd from the left), and all of the dresses are different except for the MS 215 (it's pictured in blue here). Two girls will be wearing this dress, but one girl has chosen to add straps to it....so, they still will look like different dresses.

I am SO relieved to have the bridesmaid dresses behind us...and that everyone was happy with the dresses and their selection. yay! :) What a relief to check this off right before the new year!

Happy New Years Everyone!!

Pretty in Purple

i found this picture a while back on a photographer's blog or something (i think?? i can't remember!!). I LOVE the color of the dresses though...it's the perfect shade of purple! Look at how good it looks on all the bridesmaids and it goes so well with the ivory... {swoon} :)

Wherever i found this photo, it didn't give any info on the dresses. So...by any chance...does anyone know who these dresses are made by?? I know it's a shot in the dark, but i figured doing a little detective work couldn't hurt!

Alternative Bridesmaid Dresses

This post is mostly just going to be pictures so let's get right to it...

Saks Fifth Avenue - BCBG

Nordstrom - Ann Klein

Yoox - Tocca

Saks Fifth Avenue

Bloomingdales - BCBG

Saks Fifth Avenue - Chloe

...and the best thing? These are all under $230. I'm actually liking the gray, pale aqua, aubergine/plum color combos in these all together. What do you guys think? Favorites?? Additional Suggestions??

BM Dresses

So I've had a hard time finding the right shade of aqua for the bridesmaid dresses. I guess you could probably consider me extremely picky about shades/tones of the colors, but I think everyone has probably experienced the shock/horror when that perfect color of paint you picked out doesn't turn out the  perfect color when you put it on the walls....oh, if you had JUST picked that shade above or below it on the paint chip card it would have been PERFECT! okay, so maybe i'm being a little dramatic, but shades of colors really make a big difference! seriously!! :)

I did find one shade of aqua that i think would be nice. It's a color that they carry with the Simple Silhouettes line. Those dresses are great...very modern for bridesmaid dresses, and I honestly think that some of them can be worn again, which is really most important to me for my maids. I know everyone always says that "oh, don't you think these could be worn again?" and they never really can. I mean come on...chiffon just SCREAMS bridesmaid. So i've been trying to look in nontraditional places for bridesmaid dresses - Nordstrom, Macy's, Dillards, JCrew, Anthropologie, etc. I've found some pretty good contenders...but none in that perfect shade of aqua. Although, i have found several options in a nice dark purple - kind of a royal or an aubergine purple. Apparently it's going to be  hot color this fall. But i'm having a spring wedding...hmmm....oh well i guess!  What do you guys think? Purple/Pale Aqua Blue/and B/W Damask...does that work for spring?!? I mean it is an evening wedding....

Also - i LOVE this Nicole Miller dress....but it's a bit on the pricey side
(okay, maybe a little more than a bit). But I would without a doubt wear this dress again!

Here's the Aqua colored Simple Silhouettes dress I was talking about...
i'd probably pick a different style, but i do love the color. And I'd like this one with a black "belt" instead of the aqua that is on this one.

Here's another purple option:

I think i'd actually like to see different styles/shapes in the bridesmaid dresses. I think it's a softer look with all the maids are wearing the same color/length but different styles. I sometimes feel like everyone wearing the same dress looks a bit like a bridal army. know what i mean?!? Plus, with different styles, everyone is able to get the style that looks best on them. I mean, I love strapless dresses but I KNOW that not everyone does.

So...what do you guys think?!?
